How can rail transport compete?
The competitiveness of rail freight transportation in the Netherlands is under serious pressure. The introduction of several security systems,at least 4 different ERTMS versions, the exponential increase in infrastructural charges causes structural loss in the rail freight industry.
Due to the decrease in rail transport the accessibility and the competitiveness of the Dutch seaports, terminals and industry next to the required modal split and reduction of Co2 is also under heavy pressure.
